Wedding photography is something that most of us will only ever look for
once in a lifetime, and because we usually start the process with little
prior knowledge, it can be kind of an overwhelming experience. The Vancouver
wedding photography market is literally one of the most crowded in North
America. So how do you go about finding the wedding photographer that is right
for you?
Vancouver Wedding Photography Styles
The first and most important decision you need to make is about the style of photography that you feel will best reflect you as a couple and the wedding day that you are planning. In Vancouver, wedding photography styles vary widely, from the dramatic style of Chris + Lynn, to the sassy style of Blue Olive photography. People use a wide variety of terms when describing wedding photography. You can expect to hear about 'photojournalism', 'traditional', 'candid', 'contemporary', and a host more besides. The reality is that most wedding photographers will employ a number of different styles during the course of a wedding day, and may even stylize the images further through 'post-production' techniques, i.e. computer software.
Your Wedding Pictures are for Life
What really matters when you look at a wedding photographer's portfolio is that you respond to the work, that it really speaks to you. Whether those wedding images feel totally natural and unposed, or have a classic and timeless quality, or a high-fashion look, you need to decide what's most important to you. Ulitimately you want to be able to look at your wedding photos in 30, 40 or 50 years time and still feel a deep emotional response. Look out for trends and fads that can quickly start to look dated.
Your Wedding Photographer is a guest
It's really important that you connect with your wedding photographer on a
personal level for a couple of reasons. Firstly, when you feel comfortable with
the person behind the camera, you will look comfortable in front of the camera,
and this is really key when it comes to creating wedding images that feel
sincere. And secondly, you (and your guests) will be spending a lot of time
with your photographer on your wedding day so it really should be someone
whose company you enjoy. As you interview your potential wedding photographers
ask yourself: "Is this someone I would happily invite to my wedding?".

THE JUNA APPROACH TO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY
For me, photography must be a collaborative process, where we are working
together to create photography
that feels sincere and natural. I believe that only when we are truly at ease
do we reveal our inner selves, so when I photograph I always strive to create
an atmosphere that is calm and relaxed. I want you to look at your
photographs in years to come and feel the emotions of the day they were created
all over again. I want you
to feel a connection that ensures you will treasure your photographs more and
more as the years go by.

TESTIMONIALS
"Justin successfully captured the unique spirit of our day with his poetic lens. We really couldn't have been happier, both with the product and service. We opted for a leather bound but durable album with wear-resistant pages that we look at more often than I ever imagined we would. I can't wait to show it to our kids when they're of age. Thank you Juna photography."
